How to Eat Healthy Food

How to Eat Healthy Food if you Hate Vegetables

Most people want to eat healthy, but have a difficult time because they simply don’t like the way healthy food tastes. There are a few options if you can’t stand veggies: eat other healthy foods, or learn to like vegetables. In this guide we’ll give you some recommendations for both routes.

Healthy Foods that are NOT Vegetables

Salmon – The best source of Omega-3 fatty acids out there. Add some olive oil and garlic and toss it on the BBQ. It’s amazing every time.

Nuts – Almonds and walnuts in particular are great sources of Omega-3’s and are a well balanced source of protein and good fats.
Blueberries – If you’re looking for a fruit that’s high in fiber yet low on the glycemic index, give blueberries a try.
Papaya – High in beta-carotene, calcium, magnesium and potassium, papaya is a wonderfully nutritious fruit to eat on a regular basis.

Making Friends with Green Food

While following some of the above tips will help you incorporate other types of healthy foods to eat, the fact remains that vegetables ARE good for you. For most people, they don’t like vegetables for one of the following reasons:

Experience with poorly prepared veggies – Many people have had the unfortunate experience of having mystery veggies that were so overcooked as to be mush. Vegetables can be amazing – IF they’re prepared correctly. Pick a vegetable that you’re unsure about and look online for a highly rated recipe and give it a try. You’ll be amazed at what good preparation will do.

Your taste buds aren’t used to them – If you’ve been living on a diet of soda , pizza and candy, your taste buds will probably have a fit when you begin eating spinach, mushrooms or broccoli. In order to become accustomed to vegetables you’ll need to begin eating them on a regular basis and begin limiting the amount of junk food you consume. Over time your taste buds will adjust – seriously, they will.

If you want to eat healthy food, the key is to find healthy foods you already enjoy and incorporate more of them into your diet. If you don’t like vegetables try to eat more healthily in terms of your meat and fruit sources. If you can, challenge yourself to try a new vegetable once a week (at least) and you may just find several you love, this way you can get all the benefits from eating healthy.
