Benefits Of Green Tea

Recently, scientific research has started to unravel a centuries old mystery surrounding the health benefits of green tea. Anecdotally, this wonder brew from India and China has been alleged to cure everything from bad breath to cancer, with a little bit of green tea weight loss thrown in for good measure – and now science has started to catch up with numerous laboratory and population studies backing up the stories with a bit of statistical fact.

The main types of tea are green, black, wu-long and oolong, with the only difference between each of them being the way they are processed. There are benefits of wulong tea, black, and oolong, but green tea is the purest form of tea, as it is made from non-fermented leaves and carries the highest concentration of antioxidants known as polyphenols. Antioxidants are substances within the body that are able to fight Free Radicals (damaging compounds in the body). It is thought that free radicals contribute to the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems, including cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants such as polyphenols in green tea can neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause.

To date the benefits of green tea has been studied in numerous people, animals and laboratory experiments and it is now thought that Green Tea Benefits include these top three health advantages:

Reduces the risk of heart disease: Statistical research in population based tests has revealed that Green Tea does indeed cut the risk of heart disease by as much as 11%.

Reduces Cholesterol: Research has shown that people that drink green tea will have fewer problems with high cholesterol. This could be because polyphenols in green tea may block the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and promote its excretion from the body. It is included in the list of low cholesterol foods you can add to your diet to lower you cholesterol.

Reduces the Risk of Cancer: There are many different types of cancer out there and it is impossible to say that Green Tea will protect you from all of them but there have been numerous population based studies that suggest the regular consumption of green tea will help. For example, cancer rates tend to be low in countries such as Japan where people regularly consume green tea. *A cautionary note however, Green Tea is also though to inhibit the effects of Chemotherapy so is not recommended if you are undergoing treatment.
